What do the BosDefense and BosRevive 30-day starter kits do and what kind of results should I expect?
The BosDefense and BosRevive Nourishing Shampoos are gentle sulfate-free cleansers that help to create a healthy environment for hair and scalp. Cleanses and removes debris like D.H.T. from the hair and scalp.
The BosDefense and BosRevive Volumizing Conditioners are weightless daily conditioners for the hair and scalp that infuse weightless body and shine. Hair appears thicker with more volume.
The BosDefense and BosRevive Thickening Treatments are leave-in scalp treatments that create thicker fuller-looking hair while helping to inhibit the action of D.H.T. and strengthens the hair, helping to support healthy hair growth.
For best results, the products in the BosDefense and BosRevive 30-day starter kits should be used daily. You should notice a difference in the overall thickness and fullness of your hair in about 30 days. Results may vary.
Why does our hair get thinner and what is D.H.T.?
The degree of thinning that an individual experiences can vary due to both external factors, such as stress, exposure to free radicals and UV rays, and internal factors such as genetics, health, medication and follicle sensitivity to the hormone Dihydrotestosterone, or D.H.T.
Androgenetic Alopecia, or “pattern baldness”, occurs in both men and women whose hair follicles are sensitive to D.H.T (a primary cause of thinning and hair loss)
Typically, hair on the top and front of the head is most sensitive to DHT. Over time, this hair will become weaker, finer and may eventually stop growing.
Both men and women produce DHT. It accumulates and builds up, along with other toxins, in the hair follicles. Bosley Professional Strength’s products help to cleanse the follicles and may help to remove the buildup of DHT.
What is the difference between BosDefense and BosRevive?
Bosley Professional Strength BosDefense Haircare has been formulated for those who want to take a more "defensive" action against thinning.

Both the BosDefense and the BosRevive Haircare Regimens include Nourishing Shampoo, Volumizing Conditioner and Thickening Treatment. They are available in formulas for both non color-treated hair and color-treated hair, which contains ColorKeeper Complex to help extend color.
Is the BosRevive STRONGER than the BosDefense?
No, BosRevive has added benefits for someone who specifically has hair that is very weak and is noticeably thin.
What is the Thickening Treatment and how do I use/apply it?
This product is a leave-in rejuvenating and thickening treatment that reconditions and rejuvenates fragile hair and scalp. Apply to shampooed, towel dried hair. Part the hair into three parts and lightly pump a line into each part from front of the head to the back. Massage into scalp and comb hair from the root to ends. Follow with styling products of choice and style as usual.
What is the difference between the Thickening Treatment and the Volumizing & Nourishing Leave-In?
The Thickening Treatment is for the hair follicle and helps to thicken hair. The Volumizing, Nourishing Leave-In is a styling product to aid in detangling, conditioning and body.
What is the Follicle Energizer?
The Follicle Energizer is a treatment for areas of thinning and low-density hair. Protects and repairs while helping to support healthy hair function in areas of low density such as the hairline or areas where mechanical damage (breakage)has occurred to hair. Apply one of two drops to finger tips, massage into damaged areas and leave on scalp. May be used up to two times a day with or without shampooing first.
Contains scalp activators that may help raise follicle energy levels. Pentapeptides help stimulate production of root-strengthening Keratin Protein. Apple Stem Cell Extract may support healthy hair follicles. Biotinyl-GHK helps protect and repair hair follicles. Algae extract helps reduce D.H.T. (a primary cause of thinning and hair loss).
What are the Hair Regrowth Treatments for Men and Women?
Topical treatment clinically proven to help slow down hair loss and “regrow” hair.
Contains Minoxidil:
2% regular-strength formula for women
5% extra-strength formula for men.
Use dropper to apply directly onto the scalp on the top and/or crown of the head each morning and evening. Apply to either towel dried or dry hair. Allow a few minutes to dry (may apply other treatments, leave-in conditioners or styling product over regrowth treatment.) Style as usual.
Will the Men's and Womens Vitality Supplements help hair grow back?
These dietary supplements help create the optimum conditions for the scalp and follicle to create healthy, new hair growth.
What if I stop taking these supplements?
With accumulative use you will see noticeable results. Once you stop taking these supplements there is a chance your hair could return to its previous appearance over the course of several months. It is ideal to continue use of the Bosley Vitality Supplements to keep your scalp and hair follicles clean and healthy.
Are these supplements safe to take with other medication?
We recommend you consult with your physician prior to beginning a new dietary supplement regimen.
When and how do I apply the Thickening treatment?
The thickening treatment should be applied to towel dried hair, after you shampoo and condition your hair, and is a leave-in thickening treatment. Apply a stripe of the product from the front of your scalp to the back, and with your fingers work it into the scalp and roots, for added lift and volume.
I started using the 30 day starter kit, and noticed some additional thinning. Is this normal?
Yes, this is completely normal. Since you are using a DHT inhibiting shampoo, you are removing the DHT build up from the hair follicle and scalp. Some follicles that have the DHT build up, can become dormant, and are no longer deeply rooted into the scalp, so you might experience shedding of those dormant follicles. Now that you have cleansed the scalp and hair from the DHT build-up, you are making room for thicker-fuller hair growth, and priming the scalp for optional regrowth.
Does the Follicle Energizer help regrow hair?
Technically the only product in our line that can help regrow hair is the FDA approved medication Minoxidil. The Follicle Energizer has scalp stimulators and works to protect and repair hair that is thinning or of low density. The Copper ingredient aids in Cellular repair.
Can Women use the 5% Minoxidil?
Minoxidil is a growth stimulator and as a small amount can get into your system some women will experience the unwanted side effect of growth of facial hair with the 5%, generally the 2% works fine for most women.
Do I have to use Minoxidil every day?
Based on the clinical studies best results are achieved when used 2 x a day (you do not have to pre shampoo to use)
Will my hair fall out if I quit using the Minoxidil?
Due to the fact your body continues to produce DHT it is recommended that you continue to use Minoxidil even after re-growing new hair. If you stop the new hair may begin to revert and fall out as it once again becomes affected by DHT. We do find many will go on a maintance schedule using once a day.
When is hair loss too late to help?
When a hair follicle dies, which can take as long as 5-10 hair cycles, there is no longer a viable hair.
It is important to understand that the hair follicle is a living organ and it must be alive to produce hair. Therefore, if a person has not had hair in an area for many years, it is less likely the hair will be capable of growing in these areas. In these cases, we recommend a consultation with our Bosley offices to explore the next course of action for hair restoration.
